Homeopathy in Pregnancy

Nicky, pregnant with twins, came to see me for homeopathic treatment at 34 weeks for a variety of pregnancy-related issues including: itching skin, varices, swelling of the ankles, thrush and a persistent cough with nasal congestion. Nicky had been using acupuncture up to this point.

The first remedy I gave Nicky reduced the itching and thrush symptoms significantly but improvement of her other complaints was minimal, so I followed with a complementary remedy. There was a good response; her nasal congestion and cough improved, the swelling significantly reduced. Overall Nicky felt much better and ready for labour.

I provided Nicky with advice on remedies useful for labour and post birth recovery.

Nicky delivered 2 healthy twins. She used a remedy to help with anxiety and once in established labour took Arnica and some rescue remedy.

After a long latent phase Nicky had a 6 hour established labour with no conventional pain relief or other intervention required. The labour was intense and with no breaks. Nicky had opted for a water birth.

Post recovery remedies were used to speed healing and for after birth pains. Nicky reports post birth recovery for her twins was much quicker than for her first birth. She was surprised at how well she was feeling both mentally and physically just five weeks after the birth given that she now has twins and a toddler son. Nicky feels that being treated before labour for presenting health issues was an important factor in the process.

Nicky is a midwife and is grateful to her colleagues for introducing her to the advantages of using homeopathy in pregnancy and labour.
