Gastric Reflux in a Baby

Ruby was diagnosed with gastric reflux at 6 weeks of age. She was being treated conventionally with Gavascon. Her symptoms had improved but her mother, Debbie, wanted to reduce the amount of medication she was taking. When she tried, she found that Ruby would get distressed. At three months she had also started to spill. Ruby would fuss and cry between 5:00 and 6:00 pm every night. Ruby was a very sucky baby and would get irritable when she finished her bottle. Ruby hiccoughed before feeding. Since being on Gavascon, Debbie found that Ruby had become very stiff, not relaxed at all. Her bowel motions had become less frequent and more difficult to pass.

When not in discomfort Ruby was an alert, delightful and smiley baby but very determined when she wanted something. She did not like loud noises and would fight going to sleep. She seemed to prefer to be in a routine. Ruby also had some cradle cap and cracks behind her right ear.

The homeopathic medicine

Ruby was prescribed a homeopathic medicine suitable for babies who have a good appetite with a tendency to reflux and/or spill. The medicine was also an appropriate match to Ruby’s temperament and tendency to cradle cap.

Ruby needed a few doses of her homeopathic medicine over a period of time. Her spilling decreased significantly so that Debbie felt happy to slowly reduce the Gavascon over a period of time. Her homeopathic medicine was repeated if Ruby started to get discomfort or the spilling started to return, Ruby’s ears (ears hadn’t been mentioned before) cleared up as did her cradle cap.

Debbie’s comment

‘I was very pleased to have an alternative for Ruby. The silent reflux and spilling responded very well to the homeopathic medicine. This allowed me to bring Ruby off the Gavascon and I noticed that Ruby was much more relaxed and her bowels improved again.’
